Kintsugi

C. had recently lost his dad and inherited a seal ring which he was never going to wear but has great sentimental value, as it has his dad’s initials and he always wore it.

We talked about jewellery he would wear and came up with a lapel pin, as he loves wearing a nice jacket.

Just before we talked about this commission his wedding ring was ruined, as he caught it on the swing….luckily no damage to the finger.

I thought it would be a great idea to repair his wedding ring with some of the leftover gold of his dad’s seal ring. Kintsugi, a Japanese way of visibly repairing the broken, and in this case reusing sentimental gold.

The wabi sabi way of accepting the transience and imperfection.

I made C. & P.’s wedding rings in 2006.
